Latest Press Release
07 August 2014 Stage is set for local firm to create new jobs thanks to D2N2 grant funding A Nottinghamshire media event staging company is to expand its workforce thanks to a grant from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership. Trans-Sport Ltd secured the grant from D2N2’s Unlocking Investment for Growth fund, which is supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund. The grant will go towards a project to expand the company’s offices in Treswell, near Retford, as well as create a new storage and distribution building. The company is a major supplier of customised staging in the UK and worldwide, working directly with all media industry suppliers including the BBC; ITV; BSKY B; Matchroom Sport Limited; World Snooker; Professional Darts Corporation and Halfords Media to name just a few. They are the appointed Rigging Contractors for tours such as the Premier League Darts, European Poker Tour and Caribbean Adventure, technical consultants and staging contractors for World Snooker and Matchroom Sport events as well as the Contractor of choice for the BBC Special Events Team. Trans-Sport operate a turn-key solution from design, manufacture right through to presentation, building television sets, bespoke studios and poker tables for example. The company has 17 employees but this expansion will see that number increase to 20 by March 2015. Helen Cope, a director at Trans-Sport, said: “This is fantastic news that we were able to secure grant funding through the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership’s Unlocking Investment for Growth fund. “Without the support of this government-backed scheme our project could not happen in the time frames we are now afforded and the increase in jobs could not have been created so quickly. “This in conjunction with a positive decision made by Bassetlaw District Council in granting us relevant planning permissions on site means Trans-Sport can increase the number of local people employed and the business continues to develop its worldwide platform of supply.” D2N2 - the Local Enterprise Partnership for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire - secured £5m from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, topped up further by the European Regional Development Fund, to help businesses grow through this Unlocking Investment for Growth (UI4G) programme. Since launching in 2013, the programme has approved £3.2 million in grant funding which will create 292 jobs. Further applications that are at an advanced stage are requesting in excess of £1.6m and expect to create an additional 200 jobs.

National Rigging Certificate
In 2007 PLASA launched the National Rigging Certificate, the aim of this accreditation is to bring a national standard to the entertainment rigging community. Fast-forward 5 years and Trans-Sport have 7 (and counting) qualified Level 2 riggers. Trans-Sport decided to make the commitment to the NRC early on with MD Shaun Cope first to achieve the Level 3 qualification, he felt that in order to maintain Trans-Sport’s commitment to safety it was tailor made for the firm. The company has a good working relationship with UK Rigging having a policy to send new and experienced members of staff to the Bolton site in order to gain experience and knowledge from one of the industry experts; therefore it seemed a simple choice to be assessed at the UK Rigging site in Bolton. Trans-Sport have also set up an in house training area and regularly conduct Tool Box Talks demonstrating new rigging equipment and techniques to ensure everyone working within the Company has a comprehensive knowledge and set of skills regardless of NRC status. It is the Company’s intention is for 100% of Trans-Sport rigging staff to attain Level 2 with a natural progression to Level 3 accreditation. Trans-Sport feels the NRC process allows individuals to be assessed externally, benchmarking themselves against industry standards and is committed to support staff throughout the scheme. For more information and details of our qualified Riggers follow the link below and search for Nottinghamshire in ‘County’. http://www.plasa.org/nrcqualifiedriggers

Trans-Sport Teams Up With IVECO
In order to comply with the Low Emission regulations in London and other major European cities such as Berlin, Trans-Sport have purchased 3 new rigid vehicles from Sherwood Truck and Van based in Sheffield. The firm chose to deal with IVECO due to their good after sales service and also being able to provide a tailor made vehicle which suits the unusual nature of Trans-Sports events. In order to serve the media and television industry in the most efficient and cost effective way Trans-Sport had very specific requirements leading to them requesting and ordering 3 completely different vehicles. The first vehicle was a 7.5t rigid box van, ordered with a 23ft body and day cab in order to deliver a large but light load, equipped with a column tail-lift allowing safe loading and unloading in tight loading bays. The second vehicle was an 18t rigid flatbed truck. This truck was again ordered with a day cab in order to optimise the maximum length allowed for rigid vehicles allowing long loads. The truck has been designed to carry modular structures such as the now infamous BBC Bubble Studio. The third vehicle was an 18t box vehicle specifically ordered and designed for the longer trips around Europe, this truck is equipped with a sleeper cab allowing the equipment to get to locations as quickly as possible whilst also providing maximum comfort for driver and travelling crew. All 3 vehicles are built to comply with Euro 5 Emission regulations and include the Eurotronic automatic gearbox. Although some drivers feel manual is best the team at Trans-Sport felt it important to progress with the technology available. The automatic box has improved fuel consumption, engine and clutch wear. Ultimately drivers and crew now feel it was the right move.

LTM and LoadGuards for Trans-Sport Hire Fleet
Trans-Sport Ltd have been investing heavily in the future of the company. Working globally in the TV and Live Media events industries, the decision was made to increase the size of their chain hoist stock and having dealt with entertainment rigging supplier Lift Turn Move since 2005, when it came to making a decision on new hoists MD Shaun Cope went straight to LTM: “LTM offered us the LoadGuard but we'd never used them before, so Dan put a hoist in the back of his car and drove over to the warehouse and gave us a demo.” LTM have been supplying LoadGuard hoists into the entertainment industry for nearly four years now, and Trans-Sport Ltd were quick to see the benefits of them and placed an order for 50 units. Shaun continued: “The LoadGuard is ideal for us. They are small, sturdy, quiet and compact. They're also lighter than other hoists that we've used which is better for the crew and they're easy to maintain, so the guys love them. We are very pleased with the LoadGuards; our customers can see that we're investing in high quality and reliable products, so as well as growing the company we're growing our reputation in the industry.”
